Return to Planet Earth
In Norway the sound of grouse is the most memorable and common sound I will remember. Otherwise it was the wind, the shoosh, shoosh of skis and the distant voice of Trond saying, “why do you ski so slowly with the pulk?”
Days 49 to 55 - One tired skier
It is now Sunday 3rd April. We have covered 1,254 km over 55 days (including 5 bad weather days)
Days 20 to 22 - Pulky retires
… this pounding has taken a heavy toll and holes have appeared on the bottom of poor Pulky. He won’t last much longer. These next few days to Sulitjelma will be his last.
Days 14-19 - Rain stops play
He couldn’t simply let Pulky go, too many trees, so he just aimed for a straight part with no trees, lay on the pulk and… weeeee!
Days 11-13 - Resupply Disaster!
To put your mind at rest, no one is hurt, nothing is damaged and the journey continues, but there has been what I consider to be a disaster.
Days 9 and 10 - Hatfjeldall to Seterstad Gard
Down at the lake there is one last short, steep downhill bit. David says to Trond, “You might want to have a think how you’re going to get down here.”
Day 4 - Marnardal to…
We foolishly weighed our rucksacks at Ewen’s place. Mine is the heaviest (I am not happy about this) at 13.5kg. It feels a LOT heavier.
Day 3 - Marnardal to Hessa
Clear skies, but cold today. Minus 2 degrees c much of the time. Deep in a valley the sun only made a brief appearance.
Are we seriously going to be sleeping in that!?
I think his search criteria was something like:
"What is the lightest thing that we might survive in that isn’t a bin liner?”
